Dallas Events Calendar: October 2014

It’s that time of year again. October is upon us and with it comes pumpkins, gourds, and bursts of vibrant reds, yellows and oranges. As the favorite season of many Dallas residents, autumn allows us to slow down and recover from the busy summer months in anticipation of the holidays ahead. If you recently decided to buy a home in Dallas, mild temperatures and plenty of seasonal events make fall the perfect time to explore your surroundings and meet your new neighbors. Whether you’re a longtime resident who has relocated to a different side of town or you’re moving to Dallas from across the country, there’s so much to discover just steps beyond your front door.

To help you get in the spirit of the season, here are a few attractions to pencil into your calendar this month.

Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival and Chili Cook-off: October 17th and 18th
If you like music and love chili, you’re well on your way to achieving true “Texan” status. Indulge your senses next weekend at the Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival and Chili Cook-off in Farmers Branch, where talented musicians will provide the soundtrack to some of the best tasting chili in Dallas.

State Fair of Texas: Now through October 19th
Have you ever tried Deep Fried Sweet Tea? How about Texas Fried Chicken in a Waffle Cone? The State Fair of Texas gives you access to unique (and delicious) fair food, live music, livestock shows and contests, and so much more. It all takes place in historic Fair Park through October 19th.

Moxley Manor Haunted House: Thru Nov 1st
Deemed one of “North Texas’ Scariest Haunted Attractions” by NBCDFW.com, Moxley Manor Haunted House will really get you in the spirit of Halloween. Those who dare can get spooked weekdays 7:30pm until 10pm and on Friday and Saturday 7:30pm until 12am. Warning: This attraction is not for the faint of heart!

Autumn at the Arboretum: Now through November 26th
Adults and kids of all ages will love exploring the autumn wonderland on display at the Dallas Arboretum. Through November 26th, Dallas residents and visitors will marvel at the 60,000+ pumpkins, gourds, and squash that together create the nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village. Plan a visit and see for yourself.

We hope these events help you get better acquainted with your new surroundings. As you’ll soon find, Dallas has so much to offer.
